Thrust Cut

We prefer to take a minimal amount off the case and cut the bearing to match.

Thrust cutting a VW case should only be done by a trained professional with the proper tools.  Most shops that do line boring also offer thrust cutting services.  However, many do not have a lathe that is setup to cut your bearings thrust surface.  That means they can only cut to spec.  In most cases there is no reason to take a full millimeter off the thrust surface.

Here at Vintage Volks we offer a Minimal Cut service.  We will take the minimum required off the thrust surface on your case and cut the bearing to match.  This will retain as much strength in the case as possible.  It will also prevent you from having to scrap a case just because the thrust surface is too thin even though the main bearing saddles are still in good shape.

Check out our video on YouTube to see how we do it!
