To call a Type 1 based engine "air cooled" is only telling half of the story. They are cooled by your engine oil as well, which is why they have an oil cooler. With that in mind, getting as much oil to your heads as possible whill help to keep your heads cool and the temperature more constant. The Hoover mods do this with several modications to the oil galleries, lifters, rocker arms and adjusters.
