Car Show awards are a trip. I read the forums and blogs and Im always amazed at how a 20- 25 dollar trophy can cause so much dissention amongst a bunch of (mainly) men so often after a show. . Does there have to be awards if you are having a show? Im curious, what do people really think about car show awards???

Comment by Jeffrey Hicken on February 11, 2013 at 6:57pm I manage four shows a year and most folks, who put a lot into their cars, like to be recognized for their work. I'm in Jersey and in 15 years I've only had one person complain about the judging. This person wasn't aware that at our shows we don't judge our club cars [conflict of interest]. He saw us pass by significantly better cars and give awards to lesser cars. As for the type of awards, two of our shows we award your typical bowling trophies, the third show we award plaques, but at our premier show, we go out of our way to produce something unique. One year we had made custom European oval license plates, other years we made high end posters, and last year we produced these custom lunch boxes.
They went over pretty well. The difficult part is having to continually come up with other ideas for awards.

Comment by j8bug on December 7, 2012 at 10:20am Same here, all the drama that ensues afterward over a plastic trophy doesnt make sense to me either especially after a judged show.. Ive heard all the sillinies that its actually quite childish and upsetting in some cases when some guys attempt to sabotage future events where they didnt win that plastic trophy. I made some plaques for a show & shine this past weekend because some people do like them but we stayed out of the judging. We let the non-vw sponsors handle the picking of what they thought was the best and coolest cars in there untrained VW eyes. The East L.A Sheriffs dept picked Paul Salinas' blue 3 fold oval ragtop of The German Folks and a beautifull turboed Bus of Rolando Alvarado. Those just happened to be my 2 favorite cars there that I would have picked BUT if I or any of my 80s L.A group members would have picked them we would have heard the favoritism chant over and over and over. They just happened to see the 2 coolest rides there thru untrained eyes and I thought those were the 2 coolest rides thru my trained eyes. So it worked out great and we had a blast of a show. No complaints. And I'll have to keep thinking of ways to make categories for future shows so that we can avoid all the drama...

Comment by Nate Mayers on November 29, 2012 at 8:17am Anything judged is always up for argument and interpretation. I steer clear of it always, I'd never want to have a "show car" or judge them.
